I have had soooo many requests about which fabrics I used in the multi-colour Magpie Quilt samples that I thought it's about time I finished a blog post about them. So here it is!

Magpie Quilt: Sprout Wovens
My first Magpie Quilt was in fact this multi-colour one in Sprout Wovens Fableism Supply Co and I didn't settle on the six colour version as the cover quilt until later. (You can read about the six colour version HERE) I had wanted to create a fat quarter friendly quilt pattern and challenged myself to use as many colours as possible.
I think I would have made the larger throw size but I sadly only had enough Sprout Wovens for the smaller size. I decided to pair the colours and it really highlights how the pattern is great for playing with transparency.

I used the shade River Rock from Sprout Wovens for the binding a one of my all time favourite prints, Moonglow, by Alexia Marcelle Abegg for Ruby Star Society. I quilted one and half inch diagonal parallel lines in a taupe shade from Aurifil. As a lover or brights it's normally a shade I would avoid but it blended in beautifully with the soft shades of the fabrics.
Magpie Quilt: Speckled
When the new 2024 Speckled shades arrived from Ruby Star Society I couldn't wait to start sewing with them. I'd actually been in a bit of a sewing slump but they are so joyful they completely kickstarted my sewing mojo! I mixed them in with a few favourites from the original collections and even used Macaron twice I love it so much!
Speckled shades used:
- Lupine
- Macaron (twice)
- Chambray
- Water Blue
- Verdant
- Pistachio
- Clementine
- Brulee
- Golden Hour
- Goldenrod
- Flamingo Pink
- Playful Pink
- Blue Ribbon
- Lindley Blue
- Strawberry
- Sorbet
- Storytime
- Icebox
- Balmy
- Sweet Cream
- Goldfish
- Caviar
- Daisy
I used more Speckled in Turquoise for the binding which complements the other fabrics but is less saturated than Icebox so doesn't draw the eye from the main quilt.
For the backing fabric I used some fabric from my stash: Dreamscape from Figo fabrics. It was one of those perfect moments when the colours match exactly. In hindsight I wish I'd bought more. Much much more! And in all the colours too!
I wanted to do something simple but fun for the quilting and what better than the serpentine stitch? It's one of my favourites and very easy to use. It creates the best texture too!
