About The Hackney Quilter
Welcome! I'm Anna, a former upholsterer and bookseller, and I started The Hackney Quilter to explore my love of traditional quilts in a way that felt more relevant for my modern home and lifestyle.
Although I made my first quilt in my teens I didn't start designing quilt patterns and quilting full time until January 2021. In those first months I learned that there is so much more to be gained from quilting than merely a beautiful picnic rug or cosy throw for those colder moments.
Quilt-making sparks our creativity and engages our senses. Its repetitive actions soothe us and keep us in the present moment. I have found first hand in my own practise that quilting provides a mindful space for me to replenish my reserves. It has also introduced me to a wide community of supportive and creative makers both online and in real life. What's better than a stitch and a natter? The Crafts Council writes more about the health benefits of craft HERE
I want to see the art of quilt making and its restorative powers enjoyed by all. No matter what your skill level or experience, whether you own a sewing machine or not, there is something here for you. Along side The Hackney Quilter patterns you will find curated quilt kits to make your own versions of my sample quilts.
Quilt commissions are currently closed but I sometimes have ready made sample quilts for sale too so sign up to my newsletter to be first on the list to be notified.
I also teach patchwork and quilting workshops and classes. You can find out more about them HERE
