You know me, I always make a black and white version of my new quilt patterns. You simply can't go wrong with a two-colour quilt and black and white will never ever go out of style.
I chose Sprout Wovens again as they are just so soft and I knew that this sample was going to be a keeper. (It now lives on my sofa!)
Shades used:
- Obsidian
- Creme
But you could use any black and white fabrics and it would be just as striking.

For the backing I used a gorgeous large scale print from the Sketchbook collection by Alexia Marcelle Abegg for Ruby Star Society. I love how the curves contrast with the grid on the front of the quilt.
I chose to hand quilt this version because the wovens are such a wonderful fabric to work with and make hand quilting easy. I pin basted as I find this works best for hand quilting. The nature of hand quilting means that your are shifting the fabric around much more than your might when machine quilting it so I find that pin basting makes it easy to easily adjust any wrinkles you have as you are working with the fabric.
I used my favourite hand quilting thread, a 12wt in 2311 Silver White from Aurifil. it is silky smooth and I never get any tangles which is a blessing when doing long straight lines like I did here. I used a traditional window pane design which is when you stitch along either side of both the vertical and horizontal seams to form a grid.
