Machine Quilting workshop - February 3rd

Learn the fundamentals of machine quilting with this one day course. Learn how you can use a domestic sewing machine to achieve professional looking straight line quilting and add a modern and classic look to your quilted projects.

February 3rd 2024, 10am - 5pm

Skill level: This course is suitable for those new to machine quilting as well as those already comfortable with straight line stitching who are looking to finesse their skills. No quilting knowledge is needed but previous experience with a sewing machine is highly recommended.

 Techniques covered:

  • How to prepare a quilt sandwich for quilting
  • Choosing suitable batting for your project
  • Appropriate thread and needle choices
  • Thread tension and stitch length for your project
  • Planning your quilting design
  • How to achieve straight lines with even stitching and without puckering
  • Binding your quilt

Materials needed: All materials and sewing machines will be provided. There will be a selection of tools to share on the day but you may also like to bring your own. A full list of tools required will be sent to you after sign up.

Anna will guide you through all stages of quilting your projects from beginning to end. Together we will practise several straight line quilting techniques and complete a small scale piece. You will finishing the course with all the knowledge and confidence to scale up your new skills to larger sized quilting projects such as throws and bed quilts.

Look out for More Machine Quilting, coming in March, which will focus on creating more complex geometric designs with walking foot quilting.

Places are capped at eight so that I can provide each student with plenty of attention and support throughout the day.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day but students will need to organise their own lunch.

The workshop will be held at Shoreditch Design Rooms, E2 8NG. For more details and to book your place, click HERE

  • "Anna managed to give each individual a good amount of one to one time. She has a wealth of knowledge of the quilting world and so this intimate, informal setting was the perfect introduction and Anna was the perfect guide!"

  • “Thank you for a brilliant day. I'd had low confidence about approaching my first quilting project on my own, but after the workshop I feel really capable of starting something on my own, making design choices and working through the steps to make them come to life. It really gave me the boost I needed to work on my own project.”

  • "Honestly, I enjoyed it all. Brilliantly taught, methodical and patient, never hurried. The venue is great. The other people on the course were interesting and nice to be around. I'm really pleased with the quilting I did."

  • "It was such a great day! Anna is a calm, encouraging and thoughtful teacher, and managed everyone's different learning styles and levels really well."
