Learn the fundamentals of machine quilting with this one day course. Discover how you can use a domestic sewing machine to achieve professional looking straight line quilting and add a modern yet classic look to your quilted projects.  

Skill level: Intermediate

This course is suitable for those new to machine quilting as well as those already comfortable with straight line stitching who are looking to finesse their skills. No prior quilting or patchwork knowledge is needed but please note this class focuses on machine quilting and does not cover patchwork techniques. Previous experience with a sewing machine is highly recommended.

What You'll Learn:

Anna will guide you through all stages of quilting your projects from beginning to end. Together we will practise several machine quilting techniques and complete a small scale piece. You will finishing the course with all the knowledge and confidence to scale up your new skills to larger sized quilting projects such as garments, throws and bed quilts. You'll learn:

  • How to prepare a quilt sandwich for quilting
  • Choosing suitable batting for your project
  • Appropriate thread and machine needle choices
  • Thread tension and stitch length for your project
  • Planning your quilting design
  • How to achieve straight lines with even stitching and without puckering
  • Stopping and starting your quilting line and changing direction
  • Simple quilt binding

Materials: 

All fabric, batting and thread will be provided. Feel free to bring some pre-made patchwork blocks to use in the class. 

Sewing machines will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own. You will need to make sure you have an appropriate walking foot/even feed foot for your machine. There will be a selection of tools to share on the day but you may also like to bring your own. A full list of tools required will be sent to you after sign up. 

When and Where:

9.30am - 1.30pm, Saturday 8th November

The classes will be held at 188 Highbury Hill, London, N5 1AU.

The sewing space is one a one minute walk from Arsenal tube station, a ten minute walk from Finsbury Park station or a twenty minute walk from Highbury and Islington station.

Class bookings are non refundable. Due to small class sizes it isn't always possible to transfer your booking to a different date but I will always do my best to fit you in. If you find you cannot attend a class please give me as much notice as possible and I will do my best to fit you in on another day.
