Brighten up January with a modern quilting course!
Join Anna of The Hackney Quilter at Shoreditch Design Rooms to make your very own patchwork quilt. Over five mornings you will learn the essential skills to make a full sized quilted throw using her brand new Magpie Quilt pattern. Whether you make it two tone or multi-coloured, you can make it just your style and all in the company of interesting fellow makers. Anna will be there to guide you from start to finish so you can take home brand new skills and a quilt that you will love and use forever.
9.30am - 1.30pm, Saturday January 11th, 18th, 25th, February 1st, 8th
Skill level: This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced sewists looking to try patchwork and quilting. Familiarity with a sewing machine is recommended to get the most from this course.
Anna will guide you through all stages of making a patchwork quilt from beginning to end to ensure you have all the skills needed to take home a finished full sized quilt.
Techniques covered:
- How to use a quilt pattern
- Choosing fabrics and colours
- Suitable tools to make your life easy
- Prepping and cutting fabric for pristine results
- Accurate machine piecing techniques
- Basting your quilt without breaking your back
- Machine quilting - like a professional but on your domestic!
- Simple binding methods for the finishing touch
Materials needed: You will need to bring your own fabric for the quilt top and quilt back. A copy of the quilt pattern as well as thread and batting will be provided. There may be some homework depending on progress so you may need access to a basic sewing machine between sessions in order for you to keep up in class. Some tools will be available to share but you may also like to bring your own can get on at your own speed.
A full list of tools and guidance on fabric will be sent to you after sign up.
At the end of the course you will have completed a full sized throw quilt which you will love cosying up in year after year!
