Brighten up January with a modern quilting course. Join Anna of The Hackney Quilter at Shoreditch Design Rooms in January to make your very own patchwork quilt. Over four mornings you will learn the essential skills to make a full sized quilted throw using her best selling pattern, the Tor quilt in the company of interesting fellow makers.
9.30am - 1.30pm, January 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
Skill level: This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced sewists looking to try patchwork and quilting.
Anna will guide you through all stages of making a patchwork quilt from beginning to end to ensure you have all the skills needed to take home a finished full sized quilt.
Techniques covered:
- How to use a quilt pattern
- Choosing fabrics
- Suitable tools
- Prepping and cutting fabric
- Accurate machine piecing techniques
- Basting methods
- Hand quilting
- Binding methods
Materials needed: You will need to bring your own fabric for the quilt top and quilt back. A copy of the quilt pattern as well as all thread and batting will be provided. There may be some light homework depending on progress so you may need access to a basic sewing machine between classes. Tools will be available to share but you may also like to bring your own.

At the end of the course you will have completed a full sized throw quilt which you will love cosying up in year after year. You'll also learn the mindful art of hand quilting which is the perfect addition to your winter well-being toolkit.
